With the World Barista Championships coming up in Tokyoon 29th July - 2nd August, AASCA is establishing the 2007 Australian Barista Championships program to identify the Australian Barista Champion and our national competitor for the World Championships.

**We have listed closing dates for applications. This means received by the Executive Officer (fax, email or post) with confirmation of payment. Note that applications are on a first-in basis; we can't guarantee you'll get a spot if you leave it till the last moment.
EQUIPMENT Espresso Machine La Marzocco - We are pleased to advise that this year's championships will be run on La Marzocco 3-group FB80, as used in the 2006 WBC. These are being sponsored by Espresso Equipment Specialists, the espresso arm of Allpress.
The espresso machines will be set to WBC specs: Pressure - 9bar; Temp - 92°C at the cake; Restrictor - .6; Steam:Water level - 1/3rd:2/3rd
Grinders We are also pleased to advise that the WBC endorsed Compak K10 grinders will be available for baristas to use. These are being provided by Diamond C
(Please note that AASCA will be proposing to use a standard grinder for all competitors for 2008, as is done in other countries, but is not yet adopted by WBC.)
PRIZES All State Champions will receive a trophy, and free entry & airfare into the National Finals for the 2007 Australian Barista Championship.
The 2007 Australian Barista Champion will receive free entry, airfare and travelling & accommodation allowance to the 2007 World Barista Championship in Tokyo, July 29th-August 2nd 2007. The Champion will also receive a Giotto Premium espresso machine, provided by ECM Australia
Second prize is a Sunbeam twin-thermoblock espresso machine & grinder, as well as travel, four nights accommodation and inside touring of coffee growing and processing in northern NSW, provided by the Axis Travel and the NSW Coffee Growers Association.
RULES As in past years, the Australian Barista Championship will be conducted under the rules & framework of the World Barista Championship. WBC has not yet released their 2007 Rules. As such the 2007 Australian Barista Championship will be run under the 2006 WBC framework. Please see our rules page for details.
